Robin Hood

A classic english folk tale... first adapted by Hollywood, then adopted by the American political machine. For Robin Hood, "Robbing from the rich and giving to the poor" seemed like a noble endeavor. After all, taking from evil, heartless scoundrels that possess no redeeming qualities seems justifiable. "They don't deserve their ill-gotten gain anyway!" the masses scream.

Consider the "American dream"... a local boy/immigrant/ghetto survivor makes good scenario. He struggles to overcome momentous obstacles to make a better life for himself and his family; and believes that with hard work, you can make a better life for yourself. He endures and makes his fortune and then Robin Hood knocks on his door.

So as Uncle Sam dons his Robin Hood costume and sits down to steal income disproportionately from the wealthy on April 15th, there are a few things that come to mind:
  • Does it matter whether the victims are scoundrels or heros? No, it's still stealing.
  • Does it matter what Robin uses the money for? No, it's still stealing.
  • Isn't stealing against the law? Yes... apparently unless it is being done by those who make the laws.
One more thought - What is to compel our American hero to begin his quest for riches if "Robin" continues to provide him with pilfered goods? Further why should he struggle towards financial success if he will then be robbed at arrow-point?

Now watch as the presidential hopefuls posture as Robin Hood... but they look more like the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Well said Chris! Excessive entitlement programs and unfair (and unlawful) tax policies are eroding what it means to be American and killing our beloved country from the inside-out.
